This post did very well summarizing the current status of Hackintosh for someone, namely me, who has long left the Hackintosh community. It’s kind of sad to see it decline over the years, ecspecially after witnessing its heydays.
I used to “build” Hackintoshes since around 2014. The word “build” is quite a stretch, because during that early period I merely re-purposed some old netbooks to see whether macOS (known as OS X at that time) works on them for fun. Hackintosh led me to build my own PC from parts for better compatibility than some random laptops, and it also led me to trying out the visually macOS-inspired Elementary OS out of curiosity, which led me to move to desktop Linux distributions a few years later. Call it a rip-off macOS or whatever, it surely helps convert people to adopt free software.
